What are Vinyl CAD Cut Rain Gear?
When we say vinyl CAD cut rain gear, we are referring to rain gear that have been customized by using our vinyl CAD cut process. Instead of using ink like we do with silk screening or thread like we do with embroidery, our CAD cut process uses a vinyl material that is heat pressed onto the rain suit. It is very similar in texture and look to the numbering printed on the back of sports jerseys.
How does the vinyl CAD cut process work?
The vinyl CAD cut process works by taking a piece of vinyl material, placing it over top of a rain suit, and pressing both together using a heat press. Before the vinyl can be placed, the text or logo you specified in your order must be cut using a cutting machine. Once the machine has cut the vinyl, it is then taken over to the heat press where your rain suit and text are bonded together using high heat and pressure.
When should I choose vinyl CAD cut over screen printing or embroidery?
There are generally three reasons why you would want to select the vinyl CAD cut option. These include:
- You are customizing less than twelve suits
- You are customizing safety jackets, as jackets cannot be silk screened
- You want high vis reflective silver, only offered by vinyl CAD cut
If your order does not fall under one of these three criteria, we suggest you choose silk screening. Silk screening is the least expensive option and tends to be more durable and longer lasting than vinyl and embroidery. You may still choose vinyl as an option even if you don't fall into one of the three criteria, as some people prefer the look and feel of vinyl over ink or embroidery.
Are there any downsides to vinyl CAD cuts?
There are a few downsides when comparing the vinyl option to the silk screening option. These include:
- More expensive than silk screening per unit
- Not as durable or long lasting as silk screening
- Logos cannot be as detailed those used in silk screening
As mentioned above, we recommend you only select the vinyl option when you are printing less than twelve suits, printing on safety jackets, or require reflective silver.
Why is vinyl CAD cut customization more expensive than silk screening?
When deciding on pricing, we took into account the time and materials needed to perform silk screening and vinyl CAD cuts. The silk screen process has a longer setup time, but the actual process of applying ink to the rain suit once the design has been burned onto the screen is quick. This is why we require a minimum order of twelve for silk screening. It is also why the price quickly drops as silk screens are ordered in bulk.
CAD cuts have a shorter preparation time, but the process of pressing each suit is slow. For each rain suit, the design or text must be cut using a plotter machine, weeded by hand to remove excess vinyl, and heat pressed for fifteen seconds. This means that time needed to press five rain gear versus ten is almost doubled! This is why we are able to offer no minimum order on vinyl CAD cuts, but we cannot lower the price much for bulk orders.
Why is the reflective silver vinyl more expensive than all the other colors of vinyl?
This is primarily because the reflective silver vinyl is more expensive for us to purchase from our supplier. Silver reflective vinyl is also more complicated than the other colors of vinyl and more time is needed to cut, weed, and press them.
